Saltwater Fishing

The Florida Keys

One winter we took a vacation to Florida. We saw Disneyland, NASA, Daytona, the Everglades and lots of other tourist places. The were all great. Then we went down the Keys. We chartered a boat for an afternoon. I napped on the way out and woke up VeRy SiCk. We got into some huge swells. Probably 6-10 feet.

We got into a school of Dolphin. (Not the bottle nosed porpoise... We caught Mahi-Mahi) They were beautiful fish. I could not believe how hard they fought. We were using big saltwater reels. They only averaged 5 pounds, but man oh man, did they ever fight. You'd get them up to the boat and think that was it. ZING, off they'd run, pulling line against the drag. Amazing considering their size and the size of the tackle we were using.

They were excellent eating. We found a local restaurant that fried them for us and gave us all the trimmings.

I tell you what. If I lived on the coast. I would be a saltwater fanatic. You just can't compare how they fight with freshwater fish. It would also be fun to catch some of the big fish like shark and marlin.
