Freedom means the right to keep private our personal papers, books and property including financial records, not to be surrendered at the whim of a government bureaucrat.
This Amendment is based on the old Common Law maxim that: "Every man's house is his castle; even though the winds of heaven may blow through it, the King (or government official) cannot enter it."
We are not to be seized or arrested without a search warrant signed by a judge (not by a bureaucrat) establishing "probable cause" that a crime has been committed.
This RIGHT was claimed by our forefathers against the "writs of assistance" or general warrants that allowed officers to engage in a "fishing expedition" in searching a man's premise to entrap him.
Do not ever forget that, House Resolution 666, a Republican supported bill was passed. The bill allows for warrantless searches, an act forbidden by the fourth amendment to the constitution. The Democrats opposed the bill on fourth amendment grounds, and even went so far as to include the fourth amendment in the language of an amendment proposed to be added to HR666. The fourth amendment was voted down by our saviours from big government, the Republicans. In my opinion such a flagrant disregard for the US constitution should not go unrewarded. My message to these Congressmen who voted against the fourth amendment : American Patriots will not forget this act. - Anonymous

Excerpt from the above pamphlet
Recent Supreme Court decisions have given the police nearly unlimited power to search houses, businesses and cars -- in many cases without a warrant. In Florida, courts have refused to stop police from boarding busses, blocking exits and searching passengers. RICO laws and "anti-drug" laws have given government the power to seize all of an individual's or company's assets without indictment or trial. Strip-searching persons arrested for even minor traffic violations is becoming more and more common. Courts and legislatures now consider virtually any government search and seizure "reasonable".

The Fourth Amendment -- this is the right for people to be secure in their own homes. Secure from unreasonable searches and seizures.
It has been reported that during 1992, the BATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms) seized the assets and properties of over 50,000 individuals and families. That is nearly 1,000 per WEEK! This is with no due process. In fact, most of the warrants are against the property and not the person, so the government does not have to comply with the same degree of legal paperwork as it would if it was against a person. "The BATF vs $125,000 house" is a sample of the warrants that are being issued.
Under the guise of the 'war on drugs,' the government has unleashed the fury of well armed, highly trained, special forces onto the public in general. Many, if not most, are politically motivated.
And since the local judge and police departments keep a percentage of the 'take' in these seizures, getting them to rule against the federal agencies is nearly impossible. Even when the BATF has hit the wrong place by accident, relief has been refused.
