Gentlemen;
I am Doug Hawkins, the founder of Nitehawk Trucking, Inc. I
started this company in February 1992 with one truck, a 1988 Freightliner COE with a 350
BC Cummins engine. This truck had 510,729 miles when I purchased it and I was provided
with complete service records from day one. Since that time, I have kept meticulous
records of my own maintenance program.
On March 21, 1992, at 517,694 miles, I made a skeptical purchase
of a Filtration Engineering Micron System and installed it on my 350 BC Cummins. Over
700,000 miles later, I have realized that this purchase was one of the best investments
that I could have made for this truck.
During that 700,000 miles, I have changed the rod and main
bearings twice, but I have never overhauled this engine. I still run this truck up and down the road everyday. To date, this engine has accumulated more than 1,300,000 miles on the
original pistons and liners. We at Nitehawk take pride in
our maintenance, but the extraordinary life of this engine I have to credit to the Micron
Filtration unit. I was so pleased, I bought a second system in October of 1993 for an
additional Caterpillar powered truck.
I am a firm believer in the Micron Filtration unit on my truck, I
credit the life of my engine to it. There is an old adage about Cummins engines, when they
get 500,000 miles on them, it is time to rebuild them. I could not ignore this
conventional wisdom and I wanted to rebuild the engine when I bought the truck. Instead, I
decided to install the Micron Filtration System unit in hopes that I could delay the
inevitable engine rebuild. Today, over 700,000 miles later, my engine still performs
beautifully; the same way that it always has.
I had this truck put on a Dynamometer in January of 1995 and the
results were outstanding. It was reported that the engine
exhibited only 2 1/2 inches of blow-by and that it still delivered original manufacturer
specification horsepower.
It is almost too good to be true. Something that can save you
time and money by extending oil change intervals and prolong engine life as well. This is
a difficult thing for anyone to believe, but I am living proof and all of my claims are
backed-up by meticulous service records. I have had this
system on my truck for over three years, and I estimate that I have saved approximately
$12,000.00 in reduced maintenance costs due to the performance of the Filtration
Engineering unit.
These incredible savings were the result of a single Micron
Filtration unit on one truck. I have since purchased units for all my trucks, and being
just a small company with thirteen trucks, I believe that these savings have really
contributed to our rapid growth. Trucking has become a very competitive business and the
key to profitability is to control operating costs. Currently, I am changing the oil and
filters in my trucks every 50,000 miles. Without the filtration system, I would be
changing oil and filters between 10,000 and 12,500 miles. I
am saving hundreds of dollars every week on oil changes alone, not to mention the
thousands that we are not spending on engine overhauls and downtime.
I just cannot say enough good things about this system. I was
like many skeptics out there saying, "I'm not running my oil 50,000 miles, are you
crazy!" But I made the change to Micron Filtration and feel great about my decision.
